Found system off upon arrival - turned system on to cycle - system started up in defrost cycle. Believe problem encountered was defrost operation - allowed defrost mode to finish and checked cycle of heat pump and electric heat. Everything runs normally at this time. Explained the defrost circuit and normal operation of heat pump. System will check after about 90 minutes of run time if there is ice on outdoor coil and will shift into defrost. Part of the defrost operation is to stop the top fan on the outdoor unit, shift the unit into cooling to raise the temperatures and pressures of the refrigerant to help shed off the ice. The normal byproduct of defrost will be water dripping from the outside unit and sometimes steam coming from the top of the unit.

System was operational upon arrival - checked system operation, tested safeties, checked and cleaned system drain, checked flame sensor, cycled system several times to make sure it lights off and cycles normally. Believe system failure could have been caused by a slow drain between the trap and the condensate pump which turned system off temporarily to allow drain to catch up. Resynchronized master bedroom thermostat with MHK1 wireless kit and cycled to check operation - if system keeps dropping communication with thermostats may have to replace MHK1 wireless receiver. Everything cycles normally at this time.

Found thermostat wires for the heat strip that go into wire or not not in the wire not all the way replaced the blue wire nut that had tried to get four thermostat wires into it to an orange wire nut to receive larger wires tested heat tripped no issues

Found indoor blower motor working normally and turning off and on on call for heat. Believe system fan could've stayed on due to a close on rise from the electric heat strip. Checked fan relay operation - ohmed out fan relay and cycled system to check operation.

At time of service customer noted system was having trouble keeping up in the cold outdoor temperatures. Noted system was putting out a 16° temperature differential added 5oz r410a refrigerant and brought the temperature differential up to 18.5. recommend keeping an eye on system and if struggles to maintain temperature system may have a refrigerant leak.

System heat was stuck on and heated home to 94 degrees when away from house. Cycled system checking operation of electric heat, fan on operation, and heat mode of heat pump. Checked low and high voltage connections, relays, thermostat wiring. Did not find anything that would cause heat to stay on. Recommended watching system over the next couple days and let us know if it happens again.

Found hot water system air bound - bled air from system and filled radiant system to 20 psi - found super vent air eliminator (Honeywell/Resideo) has plugged up with sediment and should have its internals replaced. Quoted replacement vent and auto fill valve. Found cartridges for zones 1 + 2 pumps are bad. Recommend replacement of zone check valves.
