This makes ductless systems a top choice for energy-efficient cooling in historic Asheville homes. Additionally, mini-splits offer zoned temperature control, which helps maintain comfort in homes with unique layouts. Trust a local HVAC expert experienced in historic home AC installation.

The customer scheduled an air conditioning replacement after dealing with frequent breakdowns and rising energy costs from their outdated system. We conducted a full evaluation of the home's cooling needs and installed a high-efficiency central AC unit paired with a programmable smart thermostat. After removing the old equipment, we connected new refrigerant lines, updated the electrical connections, and tested the airflow throughout the home. The new system now provides reliable, energy-efficient cooling, better indoor air quality, and long-term savings on utility bills.
The customer contacted us for AC repair after the unit began making unusual noises and failing to cool effectively. Upon inspection, we found a failing fan motor and signs of wear on the contactor, both of which were affecting airflow and system efficiency. We replaced the faulty fan motor, installed a new contactor, and performed a full system test to ensure proper operation. The air conditioning system now runs quietly and efficiently, restoring dependable cooling performance and preventing further HVAC issues during the heat.
The customer reached out for an indoor air quality inspection after noticing persistent dust buildup and allergy symptoms inside the home. During the inspection, we evaluated the HVAC system, checked for leaks in the ductwork, tested humidity levels, and assessed the efficiency of the existing air filters. We identified inadequate filtration and minor duct leaks contributing to poor airflow and airborne contaminants. Based on our findings, we recommended a whole-home air purifier and sealing the ducts. This indoor air quality check ensures healthier air circulation, reduces allergens, and improves overall comfort in the living space.
The customer scheduled AC maintenance to prepare their cooling system for the upcoming summer season. We performed a thorough tune-up that included cleaning the outdoor condenser unit, checking refrigerant pressure, inspecting the evaporator coil, tightening electrical connections, and replacing the air filter to improve airflow. We also tested the thermostat and ensured the system cycled properly. This preventative maintenance helps reduce energy costs, extends the life of the air conditioning unit, and ensures reliable performance during high-demand months.

Just completed a comprehensive spring AC maintenance for a homeowner experiencing poor airflow. Cleaned condenser coils, replaced clogged air filter, and calibrated the thermostat. Found refrigerant levels slightly low, indicating a minor leak that needed repair. Taking these preventative steps now significantly improves energy efficiency and prevents major breakdowns during peak summer temperatures. System now operating at optimal performance.
Installing a new 16 SEER heat pump system for a family upgrading from their 10-year-old unit. Properly sized the equipment based on home square footage and insulation values. Ensuring correct refrigerant charge and airflow balance for maximum efficiency. This upgrade will reduce their energy consumption by approximately 30% while providing superior humidity control.
Completing installation of a whole-home dehumidifier integrated with the existing HVAC system. Homeowner was experiencing persistent musty odors and humidity levels consistently above 65%. Installed a 70-pint capacity unit with automatic humidity control and drainage directly to existing condensate lines. This addition will maintain optimal indoor humidity between 40-50%, prevent mold growth, reduce dust mite populations, protect wood furnishings from warping, and decrease cooling costs as lower humidity air feels cooler at the same temperature.
Diagnosed and repaired a failed capacitor on a 5-year-old air conditioning system. Homeowner reported unit was running continuously without reaching set temperature. Testing revealed capacitor operating at 40% capacity, causing compressor strain and reduced efficiency. Replaced with correct microfarad rated capacitor, checked amperage draw across all components, and verified proper operation. System now cycling correctly with appropriate temperature differential between supply and return air.
Performing indoor air quality assessment for a customer with respiratory sensitivities. Using particle counter to measure PM2.5 and PM10 particulate levels, CO2 monitor for ventilation adequacy, and humidity sensors throughout the home. Results show elevated particulate matter in bedrooms and excessive humidity in basement areas. Recommending multi-stage filtration system with MERV 13 filter, UV air purification component for microbial control, and zoned dehumidification system. These improvements will significantly reduce allergen load and create healthier breathing conditions throughout the residence.
Sealing leaky ductwork in a 1990s home with aerosol-based sealing technology. Pre-testing showed 27% air leakage in supply ducts. Process seals leaks from inside the ducts without major demolition. This improvement will increase comfort, reduce energy waste, and minimize dust infiltration from unconditioned spaces.
Installing an ENERGY STAR certified smart thermostat for improved climate control and energy savings. Verifying C-wire compatibility, programming custom schedules based on homeowner occupancy patterns, and configuring humidity control thresholds. Setting up smartphone integration and providing tutorial on usage. This upgrade will reduce cooling costs by approximately 15% annually while providing enhanced comfort and remote system monitoring capabilities.
Converting an R-22 system to compatible alternative refrigerant as part of scheduled maintenance. With R-22 production phased out and prices prohibitive, this conversion extends the viable lifespan of the existing equipment by 3-5 years. Process includes evacuating remaining refrigerant, replacing compatible components including expansion valve and filter drier, leak testing system under pressure, evacuating to remove moisture, and charging with R-407C alternative. Also updating system labeling to indicate new refrigerant type and charge specifications. This conversion improves efficiency while providing a more environmentally sustainable solution until full system replacement becomes necessary.
Deep cleaning severely fouled condenser coils on a 7-year-old air conditioning unit. Cottonwood seeds and organic debris had reduced airflow by approximately 40%. Using specialized non-acid cleaner and controlled water pressure to restore heat transfer efficiency. This maintenance will reduce compressor head pressure, lower energy consumption, and extend equipment lifespan.
Installing a 24,000 BTU ductless mini-split system in a home addition without existing ductwork. Mounting indoor air handler at optimal height for airflow distribution, running insulated line set through external wall with proper pitch, and positioning condenser unit on vibration-absorbing pad with adequate clearance for airflow. This zoned solution eliminates the need for costly ductwork modifications while providing efficient heating and cooling with SEER 20 rating, saving approximately 40% in energy costs compared to traditional forced air systems.
Installing a whole-home air purification system with HEPA filtration and UV-C sanitizing technology. Integrating with existing ductwork at optimal location for maximum air treatment. This system captures 99.97% of airborne particles down to 0.3 microns including pollen, dust, and pet dander. The UV component neutralizes airborne bacteria and viruses. Perfect springtime upgrade for allergy sufferers as pollen counts increase, providing hospital-grade air quality throughout the entire home.
Diagnosed and repaired a failing compressor contactor in a 14-year-old central air system. Customer reported intermittent cooling and unusual clicking sounds. Multimeter testing showed electrical arcing had damaged contact points, creating resistance and preventing proper engagement. Replaced contactor, inspected all wiring connections, and cleaned surrounding components affected by carbon buildup. System now draws proper amperage and maintains consistent cooling cycles. This repair prevents potential compressor damage and ensures reliable performance during upcoming hot weather.
Ultimate Cooling Tune-Up: cleaned coils, brushed and cleaned traps, added pan treatment tablets to pan. tested and checked all controls, wiring connections. tested temperatures, checked filters. checked refrigerant temperature and pressures, tested static duct pressure. tested blower operation, tested cooling operation to ensure working within manufacturer specifications. Found chimney 100% blocked. Pulled debris out and filled up 25 gallon buckets. Flu pipe is rusted and must be replaced. I’m not sure if the chimney is compromised or not but I’m leaning on the side of compromised because most of the mortar from all the brick was laying in the bottom, blocking the flu pipe. I recommend either lining the chimney and reconnecting everything or look into a more efficient boiler. I have turned the gas off and the power off to the boiler as it is not safe to run at this point

The system unit lies are 22 which is no longer manufactured, nor are the parts. Outdoor unit must have a major leak because the person staying in the house informed me that they saw a lot of smoke coming out of the condensing unit. Which I think was the remainder of the R 22 and oil. The system must be replaced. Also, right now, the system has no way to filter it. So when we do the change out, we must consider options on how to filter it. Kevin will come out here to give an estimate on Monday April 14 at noon
Drain cup was not draining. This caused the collector box and the inducer to fill with water. Pulled drain cup off of furnace. Sprayed it down with coil Cleaner. Flushed it out with water from hose. Found it had a clear gel type material or growth in it. Put my vacuum on the drain collector and the inducer hoses. Reposition drain hose that went to collector box as it wasn’t draining properly in the position, it was previously in. Tested furnace made sure everything was draining. No other issues found. No charge as this is the same exact issue from the last service call.
Found pressure relief valve dripping won’t close all the way. Also found pressure tag too small for system. Brought pressure to 10 psi
