Clean-Air-FilterLow air conditioning output is the last thing anyone wants to deal with during a hot summer day. Yet, itbs also a really common thing during the summer. Air conditioning problems of all kinds tend to multiply during these months, as the strain on the system exacerbates old issues and generates new ones. If your air conditioner is not cooling as well as it should be, there could be a couple of different reasons why.

Refrigerant Leaks

If your air conditioner is circulating the same amount of air that it normally does, but the air itself isnbt cool, then you might have a refrigerant leak. Your air conditioner is designed to make use of refrigerant in order to cool your home. It recycles the same charge of refrigerant throughout its lifespan to siphon heat from inside the house and release it outside. A refrigerant leak robs the system of refrigerant over time. The lower the refrigerant level drops, the lower the systembs cooling ability will drop as well. If the leak isnbt patched quickly, the entire system can break down. Make sure you call a technician for repairs before that happens.

Clogged Air Filter

The air filter is designed to protect the air conditioner from the dust and other debris that is commonly found in the homebs ductwork. It does this job pretty well normally, but it needs to be changed every few months or so to prevent from becoming clogged. If the filter does clog, it will cut off the majority of the airflow in the ducts from making it into the system. Less air flowing through the air conditioner means less air for the system to cool and circulate. If your air conditioner isnbt blowing much air at all, it might be for this reason. Itbs important to note that while this is a fairly easy problem to fix if caught early enough (just change the filter) it can lead to other issues that will require professional services to repair. So, best to take care of it as soon as you notice it.

Short Cycling

Short cycling is when your air conditioner turns itself on and off every couple of minutes instead of completing a full cooling cycle. This is usually the result of an electrical issue, and can result in all kinds of problems if it is allowed to go on for long enough. First, not completing a full cooling cycle will make it very difficult for your air conditioner to keep your home cool. Second, it will increase the amount of wear and tear the system suffers while itbs operating. The longer the system continues to short cycle, the more likely it will be to break down. If you notice your air conditioner short cycling, you should call for repairs as soon as you can.
