As part of the Clean Air Act passed by Congress in 1990 (specifically section 608) those in our industry must be certified to handle refrigerant (or Freon). As described on the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website: Regulations have been issued under Section 608 of the Clean Air Act to minimize refrigerant emissions by maximizing the recovery and recycling of such substances during the service, repair, or disposal of refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment (i.e., appliances).
As a direct benefit of this law, our industry has not only become better neighbors by becoming environmentally aware but it assures that Industry Best Practice is applied. We feel all persons working in the field should have their EPA Certification and we will work with you to make sure you receive it.
