air-conditionersSummer is prime time for air conditioner problems. This should come as no surprise, considering the amount of strain the average air conditioner is put under during the average summer day. Webre not saying that you should avoid using your air conditioner during the summer, of course. It wouldnbt be good for much if not for keeping you cool during hot days.
All webre saying is that you should keep an eye out for signs that your system is in need of repairs during the summer season. If you can identify problems with your air conditioner faster, you can get them repaired faster and your system will be better off as a result. Below are some of the more common air conditioner problems that people run into during the summer.

Short Cycling

Letbs get one of the bigger ones out of the way first. Short cycling is when your air conditioner turns off before it completes a full cooling cycle. This often results in a sort of weird on/off pattern that repeats every few minutes while youbre trying to use the system. Short cycling is usually caused by an electrical issue somewhere in the system, although itbs also possible that the compressor is malfunctioning and throwing off the operating rhythm. Regardless of the cause though, you should always call for repairs as soon as you notice that your air conditioner is short cycling.
Short cycling prevents the air conditioner from cooling properly, and accelerates the rate at which the system wears down. The longer the air conditioner short cycles, the more prone it will be to developing other issues and breaking down. If you donbt have this issue dealt with as soon as possible, you may have to replace it years sooner than normal.

Refrigerant Leaks

Your air conditioner is only able to cool your home because it evaporates and condenses refrigerant constantly to move heat out of the home. The system relies on the same amount of refrigerant for its entire lifespan, and should only need more if a leak develops in the system. Refrigerant leaks are especially problematic because they prevent the system from cooling properly. The more the level of refrigerant in the system drops, the less effectively the system will be able to cool the home. There will come a point when the refrigerant level in the air conditioner drops so low that the system will break down, so this is not something that you want to ignore if you notice it. Call for repairs if you see fluid dripping from your air conditioner.

Strange Noises

Any odd or unusual noises coming out of your air conditioner could indicate a grab bag of all kinds of various nasty issues. Grinding, hissing, insane babbling, dark whispering, whatever noise your air conditioner is making that it doesnbt normally make should be checked out as soon as possible. Just in case.
